Sword Art Online

This anime is also known as Sodo Ato Onrain.  This is a interesting one due to the fact that the light novel  was so well received According to Oricon, Sword Art Online was the top selling light novel series of 2012, with eight volumes figuring among the top selling light novels. It was ranked first in the 2012 and 2013 Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! rankings, as well as top ten placement in 2011, 2014 and 2015. It was also the second best selling light novel series for the first half of 2016 in Japan, selling 489,374 copies. Sword Art Online: Progressive sold 321,535 copies in the same time period. As of 2017, the series has an estimated 20 million copies in print worldwide.

The anime itself did not live up to the light novels as Rebecca Silverman of Anime News Network has criticized the series as having pacing problems, logical gaps, and “sloppy writing”. Theron Martin of Anime News Network criticized the story as struggling “to achieve and maintain the level of gravitas that life-or-death danger should have”, while calling it unwilling to commit to Kirito’s “lone wolf” image

The reason I am putting what they think about it is I agree the anime could have been done better.  They jump around in the anime showing only a few minor battles but focus on the major battles and than showed some of what they was doing outside of the battle. They also talked about Kirito being a long wolf but yet he was always shown with a group. It does show in a flash back why he became a long wolf and how he ended up joining the group which really was not that important to what was going on around them like being stuck in the game.

To me the 1st season felt rushed I would have enjoy it more by watching more of the battles that leads up the the big boss fights instead of them just appearing at the big boss and watching that.(The best example I can give is “Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon” while they are not in a game in this anime we get to follow the MC around and see what all he is doing while he is growing also in a few flash backs we learn how he hunted for a guild and found Hestia.) In that anime they did it right. In this one they could have done more of the same. It is rare for me to compare one anime to another but in this case I felt it was needed.

As many have said the first 2 episodes was great after that they started skipping around. While Asuna is the sub-leader of the Knights of the Blood Oath she appears to be a very strong character just like Kirito. Once they got married I guess she forgot how strong she was and became his housewife instead of being with him in his fights, I do not understand why she could not do both. Well that is up until she has their daughter in game of course.

It was this anime that cause VR to grow more than it was doing.

DeviceCritique explains that Sword Art Online influences the virtual reality market to grow, and references the Oculus Rift as a prime example of the starting point of virtual reality.  I hate to say it but VR is dead, it going to be replaced with AR.

The plot:   In the year 2022, virtual reality has progressed by leaps and bounds, and a massive online role-playing game called Sword Art Online (SAO) is launched. With the aid of “NerveGear” technology, players can control their avatars within the game using nothing but their own thoughts.

Kazuto Kirigaya, nicknamed “Kirito,” is among the lucky few enthusiasts who get their hands on the first shipment of the game. He logs in to find himself, with ten-thousand others, in the scenic and elaborate world of Aincrad, one full of fantastic medieval weapons and gruesome monsters. However, in a cruel turn of events, the players soon realize they cannot log out; the game’s creator has trapped them in his new world until they complete all one hundred levels of the game.

In order to escape Aincrad, Kirito will now have to interact and cooperate with his fellow players. Some are allies, while others are foes, like Asuna Yuuki, who commands the leading group attempting to escape from the ruthless game. To make matters worse, Sword Art Online is not all fun and games: if they die in Aincrad, they die in real life. Kirito must adapt to his new reality, fight for his survival, and hopefully break free from his virtual hell.
